VETERAN coach and former Warriors and Dynamos player David ‘Yogi’ Mandigora has given his support to Kalisto Pasuwa and his team ahead of their Group B opening encounter against Algeria on Sunday.
As Pasuwa and his men prepare to battle some of Africa’s finest in Group B were they lock horns with Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia, Mandigora believes the Warriors can pull through from the group stage.
“I believe we have a strong squad and it will be no surprise if the team can perform well in Gabon.
“I see them going through to the quarter-finals and maybe further which is what everyone wants.
“This is a very important tournament for us as a country and the players so I wish them all the best,” he said.
Mandigora who was a darling amongst the Dynamos faithful during his playing days and had the chance to don the coveted Warriors jersey, though they did not play at the AFCON, believes the team has most of its strengths in attack.
“Looking at the squad, the attacking options are good and this is probably were we are stronger.
“I don’t know about other areas but the squad is strong,” he added.
The Warriors appear at the biggest tournament on the continent for the third time in their history having graced the 2004 and 2006.
Pasuwa will hope to make history again, this time with the national team after he broke records with Dynamos, and go beyond the group stage, a feat his predecessors Sunday Chidzambwa and Charles Mhlauri failed to achieve.
