A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been ordered to perform 175 hours of community service after he was found in possession of a packet of marijuana.

Brain Barakasi pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Shelly Zvenyika charged with unlawful possession or use of dangerous drugs.

Initially, he was sentenced to seven months in prison before two were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining five months will be suspended on condition he performs 175 hours of unpaid work.

The State, represented by Daniel Muchimbiri, confirmed that on January 11, Daniel Ndlovu, a police officer from Breaside Police Station was at Arcadia Shopping Centre.

He received a tip off from one of the residents that Barakasi had marijuana.

Afterwards, he approached Barakasi and introduced himself as a police officer.

Barakasi immediately fled in panic of getting arrested but he was apprehended by the public.

Ndlovu brought him to Breaside Police Station and after he was searched, he was found in possession of a packet of marijuana.
