We are not ready: Ndiraya

23 January 2017

Ngezi Platinum head coach Tonderai Ndiraya says they are not ready for 2017 season after beating Ferrioviario de Beira of Mozambique 2-0 in a friendly match played at Baobab stadium Ngezi on Saturday.

Ngezi won through goals scored by their captain Liberty Chakoroma and Malvin Kwinjo.

Both teams were using the game for preparation for 2017 season and for Confederations cup. Ngezi Platinum are going into the confederations after winning the most expensive Chibuku super cup last after beating fellow miners FC Platinum at the same venue.

Speaking to H-Metro the Ngezi Platinum coach says they only used the game to work on the physical fitness of the players as they are preparing to play Pamplemousses on Mauritius in the CAF championship. They are only three weeks away from the first leg.

“We are not ready for the season and I think we will be ready only after three weeks when we play our first game in Africa and we only use it to asses some of the players and work on physical fitness.

“The game was just a friendly match and nothing much. I took the opportunity to let everyone play as we used all the 24 registered players.

“We are playing in Africa and our main target is to win every game at all costs but for now I cannot say we are ready to play in the continent as we are still preparing for the games and because of that we are only going to be ready after three weeks.

“ I can only say it was more of a practice match and we have some new guys in the team so yesterday’s game gave us the opportunity to assess them and we are not done with working on combinations. We can only start working on that maybe next week going on,’’ he added.

Ngezi Platinum were promoted into the premier league last season and in their first year they won Chibuku Super Cup after beating FC Platinum in the final. Ndiraya told this reporter that for this season they are concerned with retaining Chibuku first and to do better in the championship than they did last season.

‘’Back here in Zimbabwean football our main target is to retain Chibuku as we are the holders and to do better in the league than we performed last season,’’said Ndiraya.

Madamburo will play Pamplemousses of Mauritius on the weekend of 10-12 February.
