DYNAMOS FC have set their sights on winning the 2017 edition of the ZNA charities shield as reports say they have been drawn to play fellow Harare Giants CAPS United in the semi-final.

In an early preseason treat, The ZNA Charities Shield will present football fans across the country with some entertainment as some of the leading giants clash for early season honours.

The annual tournament will have two Harare based clubs in Dynamos and CAPS United whilst Highlanders and FC Platinum complete the quartet with proceeds going to charity.

This will be the first of multiple Harare derbies for 2017 and Dynamos will use it to showcase their squad.

Speaking to H-Metro, DeMbare manager Richard Chihoro said they will aim to use the competition to test some of their new players and test the squad.

“As you know we are in the process of rebuilding our team so this being the first competitive action during the preseason we hope to use it to assess our progress.

“We will maybe give chances to some of our new players which will help the team,” he said.

Dynamos will face league Champions Makepekepe who start competitive action in the CAF champions’ league in less than a fortnight’s time which gives their neighbours a competitive edge ahead of the first Harare derby of 2017.

Chihoro says playing in the Harare derby will give their preseason the right boost ahead of the new season.

“This is a cup competition for us and it’s also a derby which makes it more important but this is the right test for us.

“I’m sure this will boost our mentality ahead of the season,” he added.

Meanwhile, DeMbare have been busy with preseason training conducting a trial session to identify new talent. However, they have lost valuable senior members of their squad.

Striker Roderick Mutuma left for Mozambique whilst defender Godknows Murwira and midfielder Dominic Mukandi found a new home in Ngezi Platinum.

In preparation for the ZNA charity shield, Chihoro says they will engage in friendly games which are yet to be finalised.

“Yes we have friendlies lined up but l cannot reveal them now but our preparations are going well,” he said.

Defending champions Highlanders will face league runners up FC Platinum in the other semi-final.

They have won the last two editions winning on penalties against Harare City in 2016.
