HIGHLANDERS are adamant that playing more matches in Bulawayo will not be an advantage to them.
The giants will play 22 of their 34 Premiership matches in Bulawayo – with 17 of them home matches while five will be away but in the same city.
Practically they will be home in those 22 matches, giving them massive advantage.
That will add to the fact that their support will easily dominate away against FC Platinum, Shabanie Mine and Hwange, bringing to 25 the number of matches they will fully enjoy massive support.
“Playing in Bulawayo is good but players will also feel the pressure from supporters. So it’s not an advantage to us playing more matches here.
“We have to play well against all teams. And the first match against Bulawayo City is not easy at all. We want to improve from the game against CAPS United. It is important to play good football in the next match,” said Highlanders coach Erol Akbay.
Other clubs playing in Bulawayo include How Mine, Chicken Inn, Tsholotsho, Bantu Rovers and Bulawayo City.
Bitter rivals Dynamos on the other hand will play 21 out the 34 matches in Harare.
However, out of those 21 matches, in two of the matches against CAPS United, their support will be neutralised by their opponents who also enjoy bigger support in the capital.
The opposite of that is true for champions CAPS United who will also play 21 matches in Harare.
While Highlanders and CAPS United were outstanding playing in Bulawayo and Harare respectively, the same cannot be said about DeMbare who spend the better part of the 2016 season choking in front of their Harare fans.
CAPS United went an extra mile last season by recording an impressive record playing away from the city and they were rewarded by winning the title for the first time in 11 years.
After the Warriors match over the weekend, CAPS United outstanding goalie Edmore Sibanda said they will now be fully focused on the new season.
“The most important thing is to perform better again for the club and everything else falls in place. We have to focus on the new season and hope for good results again,” he said.
