THOMAS SWESWE has been appointed Footballers Union of Zimbabwe secretary general.
His appointment was officially announced at the FUZ congress held in Harare after coming up with the highest number of votes ahead of other contestants Ashely Rambanapasi, Wonder Sithole and Mkhokeli Dube.
The former Kaizer Chiefs defender replaces Paul Gundani, who died in 2015.
FUZ president Desmond Maringwa welcomed Sweswe and reminded him of a big role he is expected to play.
“We say congratulations to Thomas Sweswe who was selected to be our new secretary general on Monday.
“He will be the chief administrative officer of the organization, who shall act in that capacity and perform such other functions as are entrusted to him by the union,” Maringwa said.
Sweswe said his new role was a calling and he will be there to work with footballers.
“I am happy with the new challenge ahead of me. I have always been in football and I am keen to be helping players. It’s something that I have always wanted to do. There are mistakes I made in my career and I will be there to safeguard youngsters from such setbacks,” he said.
