Wife beaten over cellphone

A-35-YEAR-OLD man was fined US$150 for assaulting his wife after she took his cellphone.

Innocent Mazithulela pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Kudzai Zihove charged with physical abuse and assault.

In addition, he was sentenced to 20 days in prison before one month was suspended for two years on condition of good behaviour.

The State, represented by Resta Ndlovu, confirmed that on January 30 at around 9pm, Mazithulela left his cellphone in order to take a bath.

When he came back, he discovered that the cellphone has been taken by his wife Mildred Tavaguta.

He then asked her to give him the cellphone back.

The response which he was given by his wife did not comply well with him.

Mazithulela then started twisting his wife’s hand in order to retrieve his cellphone.

He pulled Tavaguta and she fell down.

He also kicked her on the ribs, neck and chest.

Mildred sustained injuries and was treated at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
