BRENDAN ‘BT’ Taylor’s return to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has sparked excitement among local fans as to which team he will turn out for in the domestic circuit.
Taylor was released from his contract at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club in England last week citing family reasons and has committed to ending his career playing for ZC which includes the domestic leagues.
“Just to clear the air, I am returning to represent my country again after 3 years and this time I plan to finish my career with @ZimCricketv,” he tweeted.
It appears two teams, the Harare Metropolitan Eagles and Midlands Rhinos, are the favourites to get his signature.
For most of his domestic career, Taylor played for Rhinos –for five seasons- before switching to the Eagles prior to the 2015 World Cup where he would bow out of international cricket.
Taylor’s reason for leaving Rhinos in Kwekwe to join Eagles in the capital during the 2014-15 season was to be close to his family –the same reason for leaving England last week.
On this background, it means Taylor might be having at least two domestic teams to choose from which makes the Eagles a valid option.
Eagles coach Stanely Timoni told H-Metro that he is yet to engage Taylor but doors are open for the batting guru should he decide to be at Harare Sports Club.
“I haven’t spoken to him as yet but I am more than willing to have him,” he said.
The ZC domestic season is set to commence on October 2.
