HARARE – Two South African nationals allegedly took part in an armed robbery in which former Dynamos chairman Rafiq Adam lost $600,500, a court heard on Monday.
The National Prosecuting Authority made the disclosure as Samson Gora, 35, employed by Adam as a driver, was charged over his alleged role in the June 16 robbery.
The NPA says it was Gora who supplied the robbers with information about the large amounts of money being kept by Adam at his business – Merchantman Enterprises – at 93 Cameroon Street in Harare.
The robbery was allegedly carried out by Zimbabweans Nyengerayi Chikwadze alias Chipato and Oscar Muchenje as well as two South African nationals not known to Gora.
Gora was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with armed robbery. He was denied bail and remanded in custody to July 16.
The NPA said the four robbers confronted Adam as he sat at the reception of his business premises whilst armed with a pistol.
One of the robbers hit Adam with the back of the pistol on his forehead, demanding money.
Adam surrendered US$500 and the keys to the safe which were in his pockets.
The gang later force-marched Adam to his office where they unlocked a safe and stole US$600,000 which was inside.
“They ransacked the offices and took an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a Samsung Fold which were in the director’s office; a Samsung Galaxy, a Samsung 04, an Iphone 16 Pro Max and a V-lion from four employees who were in the cash office,” the NPA charged.
The gang allegedly dropped the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy along Leopold Takawira near ENBEE shop as they went away with the rest of their loot.
On June 27, 2025, detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information to the effect that Gora was involved in the armed robbery.
Detectives swiftly reacted to the information and arrested him at his workplace.
He allegedly confessed that he had supplied the information about the money to the gang.
Gora allegedly told detectives he only received US$10,000 as his share from Nyengerayi Chipadze alias Chipato, who claimed to have only been given US$20,000 by Oscar Muchenje and the two South Africans.
Gora led police to his brother Willard Gora where he had concealed his loot leading to the recovery of US$4,400 in cash, three Samsung Note 20 mobile phones and three Samsung Galaxy phones allegedly bought for US$1,500. Police also seized a Toyota Hiace allegedly bought from the proceeds.
Rufaro Chonzi appeared for the NPA.
