HEALTH and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing HIV research, treatment and global collaboration.

He said this during the ongoing 13th International Aids Society (IAS) Conference on HIV Science underway in Kigali, Rwanda.

He said Zimbabwe’s participation at the 2025 IAS Conference underscored the country’s continued dedication to evidence-based strategies in addressing the HIV epidemic.

“We remain guided by scientific evidence and international best practices,” he said.

Mombeshora also highlighted the importance of continued investment in research and innovation.

“From long-acting injectables to potential vaccines, Zimbabwe must remain part of the global dialogue and research trials that will shape the future of HIV care,” he said.

“We value platforms like IAS 2025 because they align with our national strategy and bring global expertise closer to our implementation efforts.”

The IAS 2025 Conference, held under the theme Power of Science, Progress through Partnership, started on July 14 and ends today.

It brings together over 6 000 global delegates to discuss the latest scientific developments in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.

Meanwhile, National Aids Council (NAC) board chairperson Nester Mukwehwa last week emphasised the organisation’s commitment to ending HIV and Aids by 2030.

“Our major priority for NAC is to achieve our target of ending HIV and Aids by 2030. Therefore, our main focus is to ensure our programmes remain uninterrupted,” she said after NAC’S annual general meeting.

“These relate to people living with HIV and Aids and we are committed to securing continued funding. In terms of our 95-95-95 targets, we are determined to move steadily towards achieving them.”

Zimbabwe has already surpassed the global HIV treatment targets, achieving the “95-95-95” goals set for 2025.

This milestone means that 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed are on treatment and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression.
