PRESIDENT Mnangagwa yesterday had a hectic schedule, first meeting academic and Zimbabwe’s former Ambassador to the United States, Professor Simbi Mubako, and later Apostle Dr Eunor Guti.
Dr Guti is the widow of ZAOGA Forward in Faith founder Archbishop Professor Ezekiel Guti.
In the engagement with Prof Mubako, the President was presented with a book titled, “Zimbabwe @45 The Struggle for Sovereign Autonomy and Prosperity”.
The presentation ceremony took place at State House.
As the President was presented with the book, he remarked, “Teacher waPresident (the President’s former teacher)”.
Prof Mubako served as a Dean at the University of Zambia, where President Mnangagwa studied law, hence the comment.
Speaking to the media after discussions with the President, Prof Mubako said his book was centred on the 45 years Zimbabwe has been independent from colonial rule, right from the first Cabinet, which he was part of.
“The book is really about what the title says, which is Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence and prosperity during the 45 years since independence,” he said.
“So, I try to trace all the steps that we went through; from the time of the first Cabinet and time of the problems of dissidents and the times when we resolved the problems, and times when we had problems with the British on the land question, the succession issue as well, that is discussed.

“Plus the Second Republic, up to now; all the successes and programmes which have been launched by the Second Republic, all that has been discussed.”
Asked if the book was a no-holds-barred account, Prof Mubako said he had tried to be as forthright as possible.
“Well, I try to be as critical as possible in the book, but of course, as frank as possible. And all the information which I have as someone who has been a member of Government, and a member of the judiciary, and all that, is involved in the book,” he said.
Director – International Communication Services in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Richard Mahomva, shared a few nuggets on the book.
“(It talks about) his appointment as the first Minister of Justice and how, during that tenure, he was responsible for the Africanisation of the judiciary system, the way in which judges deal with issues.
“He was also instrumental in determining the legalisation of the Land Reform Programme and then the obvious challenges that we had and how the Second Republic cured some of those issues, including the effective leadership of President Mnangagwa,” he said.
After Prof Mubako’s book presentation, Dr Guti paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa.
She briefed him on what ZAOGA is doing as part of its contribution towards the attainment of an empowered upper-middle-income status by 2030.
ZAOGA is working on establishing over 400 schools across the country, including a university in the Chipinge-Chimanimani area, itself the birthplace of Prof Guti. ZAOGA is already in the higher education space as it runs the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) and several high schools across the country.
