BULAWAYO – Former Highlanders CEO Brian Busani Moyo, 54, has been convicted of fraud by the Tredgold Magistrates Court after pocketing money in a player transfer deal that prejudiced the club of US$5,000.
Moyo was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, wholly suspended under strict conditions.
Six months were suspended on condition he does not commit another offence involving dishonesty within five years, another six months on condition he restitutes US$2,000 to Highlanders by September 30, 2025, and the final six months on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service, starting September 18, 2025.
The court heard that in March 2025, Moyo misrepresented to the club’s representative, Nkani Khoza, that the transfer of players Never Rauzhi and Malvern Hativagoni from Bulawayo Chiefs would cost US$23,000. In reality, the fee was US$18,000.
Acting on Moyo’s deception, Highlanders released the full US$23,000 in cash installments.
Moyo’s accomplice at Chiefs, Andrew Mandigora, who has already been convicted, paid the actual transfer fee of US$18,000 to Bulawayo Chiefs.
“The two then split the US$5,000 difference, with Moyo personally pocketing US$2,000,” the National Prosecuting Authority said.
Highlanders later managed to recover US$3,000 from Mandigora, but the club remained out of pocket until this judgement.
The court ruled that Moyo’s conduct was a clear breach of trust.
