BULAWAYO – Namib Minerals’ How Mine has achieved a major safety milestone after clocking one million fatality-free shifts, the company announced on Thursday, hailing the feat as proof of its world-class safety record.
The milestone reflects the mine’s “unwavering commitment” to maintaining a safe and caring work environment, Namib Minerals said in a statement.
Group CEO Ibrahima Sory Tall said the Bulawayo-based gold operation has over the years implemented a range of initiatives designed to strengthen a culture of shared responsibility and vigilance among employees.
These include enhanced worker engagement, continuous training, and improved communication on safety standards.
Tall praised the workforce for the achievement, saying it demonstrated that “zero harm is possible.”
“Our safety protocols emphasise personal ownership, where every employee plays an active role in identifying risks, protecting one another, and ensuring everyone returns home safely,” he said.
In recognition of its efforts, How Mine recently received a Bronze Award in the Sectoral Awards for Occupational Safety and Health at this year’s NSSA Safety and Health at Work (SHAW) Conference.
The company said the recognition affirms its determination to go beyond regulatory compliance by prioritising worker welfare and setting “a benchmark for responsible mining practices” in Zimbabwe’s mining industry.
