KWEKWE – Police have released the names of seven artisanal miners who died following a mine accident at Auriga 47 Mine in Silobela on November 5, 2025.
National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the tragedy occurred at Base Mineral Block, Nzwananzi Village, after the miners were trapped underground.
The victims have been identified as Qhubekani Mahlube, 27, Osca Bafana, 24, Albert Nhengure, 26, Amos Bafana, 41, Bhiliot Bhepe, 40, all of Nazareth Village, Malisa, Zhombe; John Dube, 34, of Muganga Village, Malisa, Zhombe and Mkhululi Moyo, 35, of Nzwananzwi Village, Malisa, Silobela.
Nyathi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged artisanal miners to prioritise safety, especially during the rainy season, to prevent further loss of life.
The ZRP has previously warned that unsafe mining practices and flooding during the wet season continue to claim lives across the Midlands province, where informal mining remains widespread.
