AS a new year begins, President Mnangagwa has rallied the nation to uphold a shared commitment to Zimbabwe’s national vision, steering the country towards a future defined by prosperity, inclusivity, modernisation and industrialisation.
In his New Year’s address, the President underscored the collective responsibility of every citizen in the year ahead.
He said it was imperative to forge a nation that was not only prosperous, but also built on the foundations of inclusivity, justice and equity.
“As we look to the future. More hard work lies ahead. To achieve our goals, I call upon all of us, including those in the Diaspora, to harness our collective will, knowledge, skills and resources for the good of our motherland, Zimbabwe,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said under the newly-launched National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which is set to be implemented over the next five years, the goals of Vision 2030 and the “Zimbabwe we all want’ Zimbabwe must become a reality”.
“In our individual and collective capacities, let us also remain vigilant as we consolidate unity, peace and social cohesion,” said the President.
He said the achievements made by Zimbabwe across various sectors of the economy last year are worthy of celebration as the New Year unfolds.
Through unity and as one people, added President Mnangagwa, Zimbabweans last year laid a firm foundation for greater successes this year and beyond.
“As we bid farewell to 2025, which was yet another eventful year, I am honoured to thank you, my fellow citizens, countrymen and women, for the numerous success milestones that we have achieved during the course of the year.
“All our achievements, across every sector of the economy are worth celebrating, now and in the New Year,” he said.
President Mnangagwa urged law enforcement agencies and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), along with other stakeholders, to remain vigilant during the holiday period.
Equally, he encouraged the commuting public to exercise extreme caution on the country’s road network.
“Together, let us take the necessary responsibility to guarantee safety on our roads to curb injuries, loss of lives as well as damage to infrastructure and property.
“Similarly, the ongoing fight against drug and substance abuse, which is ravaging the future of our communities, must be scaled up, more so during this festive period,” said the President.
He encouraged the nation’s farmers to capitalise on the current wet spell and “diligently work our God-given land to guarantee household and national food security”.
“The rains are now upon us.
“Meanwhile, all communities are encouraged to be alive to the dangers associated with the wet season, such as flash floods, drowning and traffic accidents.
“We must maintain caution in periods of high rainfall. The Civil Protection Unit is on high alert.
“May I, on behalf of Government my family and indeed on my own behalf, wish you all…a Prosperous New Year.
“God bless you all. God bless Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa.
