THE Officer Commanding Harare Province says the era of lazy, corrupt and incompetent police officers is GONE.
Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru said this as he reported significant achievements following the relaunch of the Client Service Charter by the Commissioner General of Police.
“Laziness, corruption, and incompetence cannot define us.
“Gone are the days when the police were viewed as adversaries, modern policing is built on partnership and trust.
“The era of excuses has ended. We choose duty over laziness, honesty over corruption, and excellence over mediocrity.
“Trust us. Partner with us. Together, we will make Harare safer.”
He highlighted that within just thirteen days, the province has made notable progress in combating crime.
In that short timeframe, police arrested five armed robbers – three of whom were captured in Fairview Suburb, and two at Mukuru Mabelreign Shops.
Twenty four individuals were detained for armed robbery or weapons offenses, five drug bases were dismantled, and fifty two people were arrested on drug-related charges.
Commissioner Chikunguru shared these impressive statistics at the provincial relaunch of the Client Service Charter held in Machipisa, Highfield.
“We gather today to reaffirm our commitment to you, our citizens, our brothers and sisters,” he said.
“This occasion symbolises the renewal of trust and the strengthening of our partnership with the community.”
He reiterated the police’s dedication to a service that is professional, people-centred, and firmly rooted in the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
“Today, we relaunch the Client Service Charter at the provincial level and to show our readiness to serve.
“This is more than a photo opportunity; it is a service contract. These are clear promises and standards that you can expect from us.”
Comm Chikunguru said every officer is now expected to uphold professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency.
He even had district commanders pledging their commitment to these standards before the public.
“Our Client Service Charter focuses on four key areas: response to calls, crime, traffic management, and community assistance,” he said.
“These commitments are your rights as citizens, outlined in our Client Service Charter document.
“Members of the public will be attended to within one minute of arrival at our service points.
“Telephone inquiries will be answered within three rings, and written correspondence will receive acknowledgment within seven days.”
Comm Chikunguru vowed that all crime reports would be taken seriously and treated urgently.
“Investigations will be conducted thoroughly and efficiently, ensuring that justice is swift and public confidence in the system is restored.
“We will enforce road traffic laws fairly and consistently, ensuring the respect of every road user.”
“Our goal is to foster a safe environment in every community – one where people feel secure in their homes and public spaces.”
