Police say all Mutangadura murder suspects ‘accounted for’

HARARE – Police said they have closed their investigation into the murder of Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura after a suspect was killed in a shootout in Gweru on Thursday night.

Two other suspects were arrested.

“The public should take note that all the suspects in the murder of Joseph Mutangadura have all been accounted for by the police,” national police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Friday.

Police said the August 17, 2025, murder of Mutangadura as he slept was committed by eight men, seven of whom are now in custody.

Nyathi said the suspects were tracked to a petrol station in Gweru’s Claremount suburb on March 19.

“The suspects opened fire upon being confronted by police, leading to a shootout,” Nyathi said.

Solomon Wisdom Tariro, 28, and Valentine Mutasa, 34, were shot in the incident. Mutasa later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Tariro and a third suspect, Samuel Munyunguma, 55, were taken into custody.

Mutangadura, 67, was shot dead at his farmhouse in Lisheen Estate, Ruwa, shortly after midnight on August 17, 2025.

Police believe it was a robbery gone bad.

Mutangadura was the owner of the popular Mutangadura Hideout and other enterprises in the area.
