HARARE — President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday divided the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development into two separate portfolios, promoting former deputy minister Vangelis Haritatos to a full ministerial post.
Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya announced that the ministry has been split into the Ministry of Lands and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.
Haritatos, who served as deputy minister under Anxious Masuka, takes over as Minister of Lands and Rural Development. Masuka retains charge of the agriculture portfolio under its new name.
The reshuffle comes as Mnangagwa’s government is pushing to issue title deeds to resettled farmers while compelling those with existing title deeds to resubmit them for capturing on a new electronic register. Haritatos is expected to lead that process in his new role.
