HARARE — Police in Harare on Tuesday rounded up more than 100 street dwellers in an early morning operation as authorities move to restore order in the central business district, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting said.
The operation, conducted by Harare Metropolitan Police, included both adults and minors.
“Harare Metropolitan Police conducted an early morning operation, rounding up over 100 street dwellers as part of efforts to restore order in the CBD,” the ministry said in a notice posted on its official X account.
Authorities said children identified during the exercise would be placed in registered care facilities.
Officials also raised concerns over drug abuse and public health risks linked to street living conditions.
“Authorities raised concern over drug abuse and growing public health risks such as poor sanitation and theft,” the ministry said.
