Bulawayo man loses $70,000-car, $1,000 to one-night-stand date

BULAWAYO- A 22-year-old Bulawayo woman stole a $70,000-car, $1,000 cash and was caught attempting to drive away in a BMW following a one-night-stand with a 37-year-old man, police said.

Nicole Dube, of New Parklands, romped with her date at his Khumalo home and then waited for him to sleep before going on a stealing spree on July 15, it is alleged.

Inspector Nomalanga Msebele of Bulawayo police said: “The complainant picked up the accused person at Parklands and proposed love to her. The two agreed to spend a night together and they proceeded to complainant’s place of residence where they drank beer, ate supper and later at around 10PM, retired to bed.

“While the complainant was fast asleep, the accused person woke up, took complainant’s wallet with cash amounting to US$1,000 which was in his trousers pocket and disappeared.”

The man, who was not named by police, realised his new girlfriend was gone at around midnight. His Toyota Tundra – valued at US$70,000 – and the keys to a BMW were also missing.

He later received a tip-off that the Tundra had crashed into a wall near Chicken Inn close to the Tredgold Magistrates Court and had been abandoned.

After crashing the Tundra, it is alleged that Dube jumped into a taxi and returned to the house, arriving at around 2AM on the morning of July 16.

She was seen by the gardener allegedly attempting to steal the BMW. The gardener alerted the complainant and they confronted and apprehended her before escorting her to the police.

“We urge members of the public to be very careful with the people they associate with, for some will be having some hidden agenda that will end up costing them,” said Inspector Msebele.
