CAPS United pay the penalty as Scottland, Ngezi and Dynamos close in

HARARE – CAPS United suffered their first defeat of the season as Ngezi Platinum held on for a 1-0 win at Baobab Stadium in Ngezi on Thursday, with Kudzai Chigwida missing a penalty against his former club.

Ashwin Karengesha had given the hosts the lead on the stroke of halftime, turning in Gomezgani Chirwa’s cross, and Chigwida’s 76th-minute spot-kick miss sealed United’s fate.

The defeat leaves United top of the table, though their lead has been cut to a point after Scottland claimed a battling 3-2 win away at TelOne.

Terrence Dzvukamanja and Emmanuel Ziocha put the champions ahead twice, with TelOne levelling on both occasions before skipper Walter Musona struck the winner.

Dynamos are also closing in, moving joint second after Jairos Kasondo’s 72nd-minute penalty gave them a 1-0 win over MWOS at Rufaro.

The Harare giants have not tasted defeat since July last year.

Kelvin Kaindu’s Hardrock were the day’s biggest winners, thrashing Herentals College 4-1 at Chahwanda Stadium to move within two points of the leaders.

Ngezi, meanwhile, climbed to joint second — a point off the pace.
