BULAWAYO – The brutal murders of two men at a bar in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb was caught on CCTV, police have confirmed.
Investigators have appealed for public assistance to track down about seven men believed to have carried out the killings at Chigumira Business Centre shortly after 2AM on Wednesday.
Police said the suspects, thought to be artisanal gold miners, were drinking at Kidza Nightclub when a fight broke out. When calm returned, two men lay dead from multiple stab wounds.
The victims were identified as Bishop Ncube, 46, of Lobengula West and Malach Ndlovu, 40, of Luveve.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said officers followed a blood trail from the bar which led them to Ndlovu’s body, found nearby with deep stab wounds.
“Ncube was found bleeding profusely inside the bar with a stab wound on the forehead and a deep cut on the left thigh. He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital but was certified dead on arrival,” she said.
The bar’s owner, Tapiwanashe Mapfumo, confirmed that surveillance footage captured the violence.
“The footage shows a group of people arguing before one of the men collapsed. We will leave it to the police to carry out further investigations,” he said.
Famed for its braai spots and pulsating nightlife, Chigumira Business Centre has become a favourite haunt for revellers chasing township vibes, but locals say it now has a darker edge as crime rises.
Petronella Mguni, of the local residents’ association, said some bars were operating beyond legal hours.
“The nightclubs must adhere to closing times to prevent unruly behaviour by patrons who drink late and end up fighting. We don’t feel safe living in an area where people can be murdered and the attackers vanish without a trace,” she said.
Another resident, Nomvelo Moyo, said outsiders flock to the area to drink and sometimes cause chaos.
“People come from all over Bulawayo to drink here, and some don’t think twice about committing serious crimes because they have no family ties in Luveve. Bottles of bronco are scattered everywhere in the morning, showing how people are abusing illegal substances,” she told The Chronicle.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact the nearest station as the manhunt continues.
