ZANU-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman, Cde Daniel Garwe, has called for unity, discipline and respect for the party leadership, urging members to desist from abusing social media and instead use it to defend the ruling party and its leaders.

Cde Garwe made the remarks on Sunday while addressing party members at the first Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting of 2026, held at the party’s provincial offices in Marondera.

He said the province must remain firmly behind President Mnangagwa and his deputies, Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi, as well as other senior party leaders.

“What makes me happy is the spirit of oneness and love that is prevailing here today. I am optimistic that this spirit will continue to prevail as we work as a team around the clock to strengthen the revolutionary party through unity and discipline,” he said.

Cde Garwe warned against the misuse of social media platforms to attack fellow party members or leaders, saying such behaviour weakens the party from within.

“Let us not use social media to pull each other down. Let us not allow social media to divide us. As a province, I implore you to continue to respect and honour our President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” he said.

“We should also respect his deputies, Cde Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi.

“Remember, Cde Chiwenga is from Mashonaland East Province. Let us respect all our leaders, Politburo members and everyone who is a leader. If we do not respect them, who then will?”

He implored party members to take a proactive role in defending the party on digital platforms, saying ZANU-PF, as the ruling party, must not allow its leadership to be undermined online.

“ZANU-PF is the backbone of Zimbabwe. We are the ruling party and we should defend our party at all times. Where our President is being belittled and scolded on social media, we should come out and defend him. Where party leaders are being disrespected on social media, we should defend them,” he said.

Cde Garwe stressed that unity, loyalty and tolerance should define party members at all levels.

“We must be known for our outstanding unity and unparalleled loyalty. Let us defend this party. Unity is key. Let us love one another and forgive each other where we have offended one another. There is no way our party will remain strong if we do not have unity, love and tolerance.”

Turning to organisational matters, Cde Garwe directed districts to conduct inter-district meetings consistently to strengthen structures at grassroots level.

He also informed members that resolutions adopted at last year’s Annual National People’s Conference held in Manicaland Province were now being implemented.

“As you are aware, we held our Conference in Manicaland Province last year and resolutions were made. It is now time for those resolutions to be implemented. ZANU-PF will implement some of the resolutions from the party side, while Government will implement those aligned to it,” he said.

“Also, it is important to know and understand that Resolution Number One is there to stay.”
