A COMMODITY broker has appeared in court after duping three suppliers of maize and rice worth over US$15 000.
The suspect, Tawanda Kaseke, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.
He was released on US$100 bail and was ordered to reside at his known address until the matter is finalised.
The first complainant is Jonathan Murwira of Goromonzi. Allegations are that Murwira gave Kaseke 13,36 tonnes of yellow maize valued at US$13 344 to sell on his behalf.
Kaseke allegedly sold the maize and converted the money to his own use and started ignoring Murwira’s calls and stopped going to his business premises.
Murwira filed a police report on November 3 and investigations led to Kaseke’s arrest on December 27.
The second complainant, Takudzwa Chiwariro, came forward upon hearing that Kaseke had been arrested.
Allegations are that on July 26, at the NRZ Complex in the Harare CBD, Chiwariro gave Kaseke 5 tonnes of rice bran valued at US$2 000 to sell on his behalf.
Kaseke sold the goods and converted the money to his own use and became evasive.
The third complainant is Glorious Sooka teamed up with Kaseke on December 23 and sold 12,5 tonnes of maize bran and the clients remained with a balance of US$1 000.
Kaseke collected the money behind Sooka’s back and converted the money to his own use and became evasive.
Lawrence Gangarahwe appeared for the State.
