Former Warriors ace Tendai Ndoro dies at the age of 40

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Former Zimbabwe international striker Tendai Ndoro has died at the age of 40.

The former Chicken Inn and Orlando Pirates ace was reportedly found dead at his home in South Africa.

The cause of death was not immediately clear, but Ndoro has been battling diabetes since 2021. His struggles with the disease led to his retirement from football in 2020 due to eyesight issues.

Born in Luveve in Bulawayo, Ndoro burst onto the scene in 2009 playing for Nico United in Botswana.

He signed for Chicken Inn in 2011 and two years later he caught the attentions of Cape Town City in South Africa, leading to a two-year spell with the club.

Orlando Pirates came calling in 2015 and he enjoyed two seasons with the Soweto giants before he joined Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia’s top flight in 2017.

He lasted just one season in Saudi Arabia and returned to South Africa with Ajax Cape Town.

Two more spells at Highlands Park and Al-Orouba of Oman brought down the curtain on his career.

In May 2025, he was hospitalised in Durban and had successful surgery to remove an armpit tumour.

Ndoro’s divorce from his ex-wife Thando Maseko in 2022 after a brief marriage sparked internet claims that he had lost his Johannesburg home, cars, and fortune as properties were registered in her name, leading to bankruptcy and return to Zimbabwe.

However, Ndoro denied this in November 2024 interviews, stating it was an amicable split with mutual asset division.

“I didn’t lose anything, she didn’t take anything,” he said.
