Former Zimbabwe football star Alois Bunjira survives horror crash

RUSAPE – Two people have died and three others are injured following a head-on collision involving a vehicle driven by former CAPS United and Zimbabwe national football team striker Alois Bunjira.

The tragic accident occurred on Saturday near Rusape. Bunjira was travelling to Honde Valley.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the crash happened around 10AM at the 8km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga road.

Police reports state that an Isuzu pickup truck, carrying three people, attempted to overtake a bus. During this maneuver, it collided head-on with an oncoming BMW vehicle driven by Bunjira, who had one passenger with him.

The force of the collision proved fatal for two passengers traveling in the Isuzu pickup truck. Three other individuals involved in the crash sustained injuries.

While the police confirmation specifies the deceased were from the Isuzu, the condition of Bunjira and his passenger was not explicitly detailed beyond being among the five people involved – two deceased, three injured.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The three injured victims are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

 

Alois Bunjira is a well-known figure in Zimbabwean football, having played as a striker for the national team, the Warriors. The accident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the nation’s sporting fraternity.
