BANKET – Four people died on Sunday afternoon in a horrific head-on collision between a Mazda 3 and a haulage truck along the Harare–Chirundu highway.
Police said the crash occurred at the 103-kilometre peg near Banket at around 4PM, when the Mazda 3, which was headed towards Chinhoyi with three passengers on board, collided with a Howo Sino truck coming from the opposite direction.
“The impact trapped three occupants of the Mazda 3 inside the vehicle while another was thrown out. All four died on the spot,” police confirmed.
The victims’ bodies were taken to Banket Hospital for post-mortem.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the busy highway, which has seen a spike in fatal crashes in recent months.
