HARARE – Former home affairs minister Giles Mutseyekwa was laid to rest at Yeovil cemetery in Mutare on Friday during a state-assisted funeral.
Mutseyekwa died on June 27 following a short illness.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the MDC-T vice chairman and retired army major had been accorded a state-assisted funeral “for his contribution to consensus politics.”
Mutseyekwa was home affairs minister during a power-sharing government between 2009 and 2013.
Mnangagwa said Mutseyekwa was a “long time serving member of the opposition who believed in his cause.”
“He embraced dialogue as a way of moving our nation forward post elections. Through his party and party leadership, the government was able to rally Zimbabweans across the political divide to focus on national development,” Mnangagwa said.
