CHEGUTU – Police have arrested a 52-year-old woman from Shurugwi accused of killing her granddaughter in a suspected ritual murder.
National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Veronica Mudzipuri, 52, was detained on August 26 after allegedly poisoning her granddaughter, Tawanayasha Kadhene, 4, with a maize pesticide pill mixed into a maheu drink.
Mudzipuri, an artisanal miner, is further accused of cutting flesh from the child’s cheek and mixing it with herbs supplied by a sangoma. She allegedly cooked and ate the mixture as part of the ritual.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
