Highlanders, Caps United suffer premiership away defeats

HARARE – Traditional football giants Highlanders and Caps United’s uninspiring show in this year’s premiership campaign continued on Saturday when they both lost their clashes in two Premier Soccer League Match Day 17 round of fixtures played at different venues.

In the match played at Heart Stadium, Khama Billiat scored for Yadah three minutes after the half-time breather to add to a first half strike by Jerry Chipangura to condemn Highlanders to a 2-0 defeat.

In the headline fixture of Saturday’s matches, champions Ngezi Platinum gave their title defence a major boost when they beat Caps United 3-2 through first half goals by Moses Demera and Obriel Chirinda with Never Tigere finding the net in the second half.

Caps United tried to fight back through goals by Hastings Chapusha and the premiership’s leading goal scorer William Manondo but found they could only salvage their pride.

At Wadzanayi stadium, Roland Kangadzi struck for Simba Bhora just before the half hour mark to see off a challenge by ZPC Kariba in a clash that ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Uninspiring Bulawayo Chiefs played out a goalless draw against in-form Manica Diamonds at Luveve.

As the premiership reaches the mid-season milestone, FC Platinum still top the league standings on 34 points from 16 matches played.

Manica Diamonds are second on 32 while Ngezi Platinum lie third on 30.

The champions share the same number of points with fourth placed Simba Bhora but they have a better goal difference.

Highlanders and Caps United are fifth and sixth on 26 and 22 points respectively.

Match Day 17 fixtures continue this Sunday.
