HARARE – A 31-year-old man accused of senselessly killing and dismembering the body of a 12-year-old boy in Harare’s Eastview suburb was charged with murder on Tuesday
Panashe Mukura was remanded in custody and advised to seek bail at the High Court during a brief appearance before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.
The National Prosecuting Authority says on July 5, 2025, the victim Keith Jon was left in the custody of his maternal grandfather by his mother who was going away.
Sometime during the evening, Mukura went to the grandfather’s residence and persuaded Jon that they should go and sleep at his mother’s house in the same neighbourhood.
“During the night, the accused woke up and took a pair of scissors and stabbed the deccased on the neck and went on to cut the deceased’s private parts and left them hanging,” the NPA charges.
“The accused further took a comb and poked the victim on the nose and the deceased bled. The accused dragged the deceased outside the house and half buried him in the garden which is behind the house.”
On the following morning, the court heard that Mukura went to the victim’s grandfather and reported that the boy had gone missing.
They informed other neighbours and proceeded to the house Jon shared with his mother.
The search party noted that there were blood stains at the door step before also observing blood stains on Mukura’s clothes.
They searched outside the house and found Jon’s body half-buried in the garden.
Police were called leading to Mukura’s arrest.
