Man arrested over theft of 72kg ZESA power transmission cable

INYATHI – Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for vandalising ZESA infrastructure after he and three alleged accomplices were caught burning an armoured electricity cable in the Bona Mine area of Inyathi.

The incident occurred on November 9, 2025, when members of the public spotted four men burning a cable used for electricity transmission and distribution.

“An attempt was made to carry out a citizen’s arrest, but the suspects managed to flee, leaving behind their belongings and tools of trade,” a ZESA statement said.

A burnt cable weighing 72kg was recovered at the scene.

Following investigations by ZESA Loss Control and the ZRP, Trust Bhebhe, 26, of Bona Village 7 was arrested on November 12. He has since appeared in court and been remanded in custody.

Police say efforts are underway to track down the remaining three suspects who are still at large.
