NetOne extends off-peak data hours, targets tourists with special packages

HARARE – Mobile network operator NetOne has extended its off-peak data hours, while also rolling out specialised connectivity packages aimed at tourists entering Zimbabwe.

The company has adjusted its off-peak data window to run from 10PM to 5AM, replacing the previous 1AM to 7AM schedule, a move NetOne says is designed to better reflect how customers now use data.

“This customer-first adjustment allows more Zimbabweans to take advantage of affordable internet for overnight downloads, updates and entertainment,” NetOne said, adding that the change aligns with the country’s “growing data consumption patterns”.

The revised off-peak period is expected to benefit students, content creators and households that schedule heavy internet usage during the night, particularly as demand for data-intensive services continues to rise.

NetOne said the move forms part of ongoing refinements to its data products as it seeks to “listen to customers and continuously improve service delivery”.

In addition to the off-peak data changes, the country’s second largest mobile phone operator has also launched a Tourist SIM card, targeting visitors arriving in the country.

The Tourist SIM is being distributed free of charge at major ports of entry, including airports, and offers flexible bundles tailored for short-term stays.

According to NetOne, the SIM remains active for up to 90 days.

“This initiative ensures that visitors to Zimbabwe can access affordable, high-quality connectivity from the moment they arrive,” the company said, describing the product as support for the government’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” drive.

The developments come as NetOne says it continues to align its products with broader national goals around digital inclusion, tourism growth and economic development.

“By listening to customers and refining our offerings, we are strengthening our role in Zimbabwe’s journey towards a tech-driven future,” the company said.
