BULAWAYO – A family in Bulawayo is grappling with the devastating aftermath of a fire that completely destroyed their home, leaving them with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.
The fire, which occurred in Nkulumane 5 on June 16, consumed the Moyo family house and property.
“I don’t really know what happened. My tenant called me to tell me that the house was burning 20 minutes after I had left to go to my market stall,” homeowner Dorcas Moyo, a street vendor, said.
Moyo explained that her tenant had seen smoke coming from her bedroom.
“I had left my bedroom keys with her, so when she opened it, the whole room was already on fire,” said Moyo.
Neighbours were called to help extinguish the fire, but all their efforts were in vain.
Dorcas lives at the property with her husband and their three boys, aged 3, 8 and 10. The tenant, a woman, lives at the house with her three children.
An estimated US$25,000 is needed to repair the house. The family is appealing for help in the form of cash or kind. They can be contacted at 0786397095 or 0772942964.
