Norton ‘serial killer’ fears ease as one of two murder cases solved

NORTON – Fears of a serial killer roaming Norton appear to have eased after prosecutors confirmed that one of two murders reported within days of each other has been solved.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Pardon Jena, 29, of Maridale in Norton, was brought before the Norton Magistrates’ Court facing a murder charge after allegedly stabbing a man to death in the early hours of August 25.

According to the NPA, Jena and the victim had left Seaways Bar together around 2AM and walked towards Kufa Garage when an argument broke out. Jena is alleged to have pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck, killing him instantly.

The body was discovered a short while later by a passerby, who alerted police. Investigators recovered evidence linking Jena to the crime, including blood-stained shoes believed to have been worn during the attack. He was arrested later the same day near Petro Trade Garage.

Prosecutors have opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the charge. Investigations are still in progress.

The killing was the second in as many days, sparking speculation of a possible serial attacker in the commuter town west of Harare. However, with the arrest in this case, authorities say the murders do not appear to be linked.

“Murder is a grave crime. Members of the public are urged to resolve their disputes amicably,” the NPA said in a statement.

Police are still investigating the murder of Jack Gedion, whose body was discovered on August 26 in the same area with signs of possible mutilation.
