HARARE – Socialite and musician Millicent Chimonyo, popularly known as Malloti, has appeared in court accused of using offensive language against controversial preacher Passion Java on social media.
Chimonyo was charged with cyberbullying when she appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzayi on Wednesday. She was not asked to plead and was released on US$100 bail.
As part of her bail conditions, Chimonyo must report to the police once every two weeks, reside at her given address, and not interfere with witnesses.
Prosecutors allege that on May 14 this year, Chimonyo recorded a video in which she hurled unprintable insults at Java and posted it on her Facebook account. She is said to have also accused the cleric of tarnishing the image of Zim Dancehall music.
The National Prosecuting Authority says her actions contravened the country’s cyber laws.
Nomsa Kangara appeared for the prosecution.
