Suspect arrested, 7 others sought over murder of Ruwa businessman Mutangadura

HARARE – Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the August murder and robbery of prominent Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura, who was gunned down at his home and entertainment spot, Mutangadura Hideout, along Dunstan Road in Ruwa.

Police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said detectives from CID Homicide Harare arrested Phillip Mutasa, 38, in Mkoba 6, Gweru, on October 3, following a tip-off linking him to the killing.

Mutasa allegedly confessed to taking part in the attack and named seven accomplices who remain at large.

The murder occurred on the night of August 17, 2025, when a gang of masked robbers armed with pistols, claw bars and hammers stormed Mutangadura’s farm.

The gang overpowered a security guard, tied his hands with shoelaces and forced him into the house before breaking down a door to reach the businessman, who was in bed with his wife.

“They shot the victim in the stomach before ransacking the house,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Mutangadura and his wife were rushed to Eden Hospital in Windsor, Ruwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife survived with injuries.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables.

Mutangadura, 67, was a well-known entrepreneur who owned Mutangaz Hideout, Mutangaz Panyama and Lisheen Estate in Ruwa.
