HOMELINK has called on local authorities to provide land for the development of affordable and accessible housing for all, as the company rolls out various housing projects across the country.

This was revealed on Friday during the launch of Homelink Park in Umguza, Matabeleland North, where the company unveiled approximately 191 residential stands.

In his remarks, Homelink board chairman Mr William Manhimanzi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering quality, sustainable and affordable housing solutions to Zimbabwe.

Homelink is implementing four major projects: Homelink Park in Umguza, Homelink Heights in Harare, Bushmead in Masvingo and Homelink Estates near Lake Chivero.

“We would like to ensure that we do not just focus on big cities like Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare; we have been to Bindura, we are in Masvingo, and we want to be present in all parts of Zimbabwe. We want to partner with the Government to make the dream of housing a reality.

“I’m appealing to all local authorities across the country. I think you have seen what we can do, you’ve heard testimonies of what we’ve achieved before, and we would like to collaborate.

Whether you have land you want to develop, we are here to partner with you and ensure that we provide decent accommodation to our people,” said Mr Manhimanzi.

The Mutapa Investment Fund subsidiary has invested around US$5 million in servicing Homelink Park in Umguza, where roads, sewer systems, and other critical infrastructure have already been developed.

Mr Manhimanzi emphasised that the project is not just about residential stands — it creates opportunities for families to build decent homes, for communities to flourish and for wealth to be generated.

“It is a direct and practical contribution towards addressing Zimbabwe’s housing backlog, which stands at over two million,” he said.

In his remarks, Mutapa Investment Fund chief executive officer Dr John Mangudya said making land available for housing development would also stimulate investment, create jobs and accelerate progress towards Vision 2030.

“Hon Minister Zhemu Soda, as we celebrate this important milestone, allow me to humbly appeal for your continued support in making land available in other provinces across the country,” said Dr Mangudya, addressing the National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Zhemu Soda, who was the guest of honour at the event.

“With more access to land, we can replicate developments of this scale in other regions, ensuring that no community, no province and no citizen is left behind.

This will not only expand opportunities for home ownership, but will also stimulate investments, create jobs, and accelerate progress towards the goals of Vision 2030.”

In his keynote address, Minister Soda said the Second Republic had prioritised the provision of sustainable human settlements, noting that initiatives such as Homelink Park were a clear indication that the nation was turning policy into tangible results.

“By providing well-serviced stands with title deeds, Homelink is not only building houses but empowering families, strengthening communities and boosting local economies,” said Minister Soda.

With the Government placing strong emphasis on sustainable urban growth, the Second Republic’s housing drive is regarded as a critical component in addressing the shelter needs of a growing population.
