VICE PRESIDENT Kembo Mohadi met with officials from the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe (RPAZ) yesterday in Harare, where they discussed the ratification of the Radiation Protection Amendment Bill by Parliament, along with other challenges facing the authority.
The meeting followed a courtesy call by RPAZ officials, led by board chairperson Dr Anna-Marry Nyakabau.
Vice President Mohadi is mandated to oversee the activities of the Authority.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr Nyakabau said the Vice President promised and assured them that he would attend to all the issues raised and presented before him.
The meeting followed a courtesy call by RPAZ officials, led by board chairperson Dr Anna-Marry Nyakabau.
“We came to meet the Vice President, Honourable Kembo Mohadi, as the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe, because he is our actual Minister in terms of overseeing the activities of the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe.
“So, all the corporate governance issues, policy issues, we were talking to him about them and he assured us that he is going to look into all our challenges at the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe.
“We also discussed the Radiation Protection Amendment Act, which is still a Bill. We want to ensure that it is legally ratified by Parliament to allow the Radiation Protection Authority to operate effectively.
“These are some of the things he reassured us on,” she said.
Dr Nyakabau stated that the ratification of the Bill was long overdue and that the delay was affecting the Authority’s operations.
She also pointed out the need for land to construct their own offices, as the Authority is currently renting.
Dr Nyakabau stressed the importance of deploying officers at the country’s entry points to screen imported vehicles for radiation compliance, particularly those coming from high-risk countries.
