VP Mohadi honours Zvobgo family

VICE President Kembo Mohadi yesterday laid wreaths at the tombstones of the late Reverend Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo and his wife at their homestead in Shonganiso, Masvingo, in honour of their work and contribution to the development of the nation.

He also paid tribute to the late Cde Edison Zvobgo who died on August 22, 2004.

VP Mohadi said their unwavering dedication to the nation and its people continues to be a source of inspiration.

After laying the wreaths, Vice President Mohadi also commissioned a computer block at Zivezano Secondary School.

He also launched the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme, which is being spearheaded by Discovery Ambulance Services, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

“Today, we gather to pay tribute to these remarkable individuals, whose unwavering dedication to our nation and its people continues to inspire us.

“Reverend Zvobgo and Mrs Zvobgo devoted their lives to uplifting communities and championing education, while Dr Eddison Zvobgo played a crucial role in our liberation struggle.

“Together, they embodied the spirit of resilience and selflessness that we must continue to uphold as we build our nation,” he said.

Vice President Mohadi served in Government with Dr Zvobgo as both were Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers.

He said Dr Edison Zvobgo stood for honesty, accountability and transparency in all Government ministries and departments.

VP Mohadi indicated that the establishment of student hostels at Shonganiso Mission is a testament to the Second Republic’s commitment to education and the empowerment of youth.

“Education is the cornerstone of our future and by investing in our students, we are investing in the very fabric of our society,” he said.

The VP said the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme by Discovery Ambulance Services in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care underscores the Government’s dedication to ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to all Zimbabweans.

“In the face of challenges, we must prioritise the health and well-being of our citizens.

“This scheme will provide essential medical services, particularly in underserved areas and aims to save lives and improve health outcomes for all,” he said.

On the launch of the drug and substance abuse campaign in Masvingo, Vice President Mohadi said yesterday’s event was not just to witness the fruits of hard work and collaboration, but also to reaffirm commitment to championing a drug-free society by the year 2030.

“This gathering bears testament to what can be achieved when Government and the private sector come together for a common goal, to build their country, sekutaura kunoita President vedu veZimbabwe and Chairman we SADC, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa kuti “Nyika, inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatirwa nevene vayo”.

“Reverend Zvobgo and Mrs Zvobgo vakavaka Shonganiso Mission varivafundisi veDutch Reformed Church zvichireva kuti vaitofamba mugwara raPresident Mnangagwa as early as 1952 when this Mission was established.

“As we embark on these two important programmes, let us remember the values that the late Reverend Zvobgo, Mrs Zvobgo and Dr Eddison Zvobgo embodied.

“They stood for integrity, service and the unwavering belief in the potential of our people” he said.

VP Mohadi handed over a 10kVA solar kit, 50 computers, Starlink kit and building materials to Shonganiso Mission.

He also handed out food hampers to the elderly.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Ezra Chadzamira, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, Minister of ICT Tatenda Mavetera and Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Sleiman Kwidini were among Government officials who attended the event.

The Zvobgo family was represented by Professor Rungano Zvobgo.
