Wanted Zanu PF linked drug dealer finally arrested

HARARE – Police have arrested Zanu PF affiliated Mbare drug peddler Simbarashe Chanachimwe, 31, popularly known as Dama.

Dama, apprehended Wednesday, had been on the run since police launched a blitz on illicit drug peddlers and users recently.

In a Wednesday statement, police national spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed Dama’s arrest.

“The ZRP has arrested Simbarashe Chanachimwe (31), alias Dama, who was being sought by the police in connection with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.

“This follows a raid that was conducted by the police at the suspect’s drug base at Block 14 Matapi Flats, Mbare Harare on 09/02/23 at around 0400 hours.

“Police recovered 26 sachets of dagga and one plant of mbanje measuring 1,7 metres,” said the police.

Mbare, a Harare suburb, has emerged as a hotspot for drug and substance abuse over the years.

So far, at least 2,470 suspects have been apprehended as part of the operation “No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances.”

However, the police’s nationwide anti-drug campaign has been criticised for focusing on runners rather than the drug lords who control the distribution of drugs into the country.
