ZIMBABWE recorded a decline in road traffic accidents in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the last four months of 2024.
In a report titled Transport Statistics Report, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) said it recorded at least 12 808 road accidents in the first quarter of 2025, down from 14 640 reported during the fourth quarter of 2024
“A total of 12 808 road traffic accidents were reported in the first quarter 2025, representing a 12,5% decrease from 14 640 accidents reported during the fourth quarter of 2024,” the report read.
“The fatal accidents also decreased by 15,5% from 449 in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 378 during the quarter under review.
“Consequently, the number of deaths resulting from the reported road traffic accidents fell by 15,6%, from 550 to 464.”
According to the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, about 90% of road accidents are a result of human error.
