AT least 382 survivors of drug and substance abuse have been reintegrated into their families and communities following treatment and rehabilitation at centres across the country, Government has revealed.

The development comes as the country intensifies efforts to combat rising cases of drug and substance abuse, particularly among youths, through the implementation of the National Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Plan launched last year.

The strategy is anchored on seven pillars: drug and substance supply reduction, demand reduction, harm reduction, treatment and rehabilitation, psychosocial support, community reintegration, as well as policy and legal enforcement.

Speaking at a press briefing on progress made under the Psychosocial Support and Community Reintegration pillar, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo yesterday said Government remains committed to addressing the scourge through a people-centred approach focused on recovery, dignity and social inclusion.

“The Government of Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the complex challenge of drug and substance abuse through a comprehensive, people-centred approach that prioritises recovery and social inclusion,” he said.

“During the first quarter of 2026, notable progress was achieved under the Community Reintegration and Psychosocial Support Pillar: 382 individuals were successfully reintegrated into their families and communities through strengthened reintegration systems that sustain recovery and reduce relapse.”

Minister Moyo added that the national toll-free line, 406, received 520 calls during the period, with all cases successfully managed, reflecting growing public confidence in Government support systems and increased citizen participation in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

He also said 688 parenting groups are functional nationwide, with an additional 48 groups established during the quarter.
