Maid who kidnapped journalist’s son arrested, tot ‘in good health’

BULAWAYO – Police on Tuesday arrested a housemaid who allegedly abducted the one-year-old son of a journalist in Bulawayo.

Kimberly Ncube, 19, was detained in Pelandaba suburb after The Chronicle’s assistant editor Nduduzo Tshuma and his wife returned home on Monday evening to find her gone, together with the tot and a BMW 3 series which was parked in a garage at their Paddonhurst home.

Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele of Bulawayo police said: “Police in Bulawayo would like to appreciate a job well-done by the public who saw the wanted person and swiftly passed information.

“The informants stood on guard until officers arrived at the location in Pelandaba suburb.”

Msebele said the boy was “in good health” and had been reunited with his parents.

The boy’s swift recovery saw police launch a fresh appeal over a 11-year-old boy who has been missing for two weeks.

Promise Ncube, of Pumula East suburb, left his home on October 17 in search of sticks for his Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) nearby.

He was never seen again.

Msebele said: “Anyone with information that may lead to the location of the child should contact ZRP Pumula on 029422907 or the investigating officer Assistant Inspector Sibanda on 0712598992.”

She said Promise was last seen wearing a khaki short and a red T-Shirt.
