BULAWAYO – A 23-year-old Bulawayo Polytechnic College student appeared in court charged with raping a 13-year-old girl and exposing her to pornography.
Nkanyiso Masuku, of Matopos Road in Greenhill, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza who remanded him in custody pending a bail hearing.
He faces three counts of rape, exposing a child to pornography and deliberately supplying false information to police officers.
The state represented by Dominic Moyo said allegations against Masuku stem from incidents that occurred between November 1 and 25 this year, during which he allegedly sent pornographic videos to the minor, a Grade 7 student.
On November 25, 2024, Masuku allegedly visited the child’s home in Kumalo suburb at 11AM and raped her in her bedroom, with the alleged abuse continuing until just after midnight on November 26, 2024, when the girl’s grandmother entered her room and found Masuku.
The grandmother alerted the child’s father who raced to the house and escorted them to the police station.
Masuku is alleged to have supplied false information to the police, claiming his name was Sean Miller, a 15-year-old Form 3 student at Masiyephambili High School. He also provided a false address claiming to live in Hillcrest suburb.
He also stated that his mother was in the United Kingdom and his father was in Harare where he was employed, according to the testimony of police officer Brighton Mwandira, who is stationed at ZRP Kumalo.
