MASHONALAND West Province is preparing to host a two-day investment conference in Kariba to attract funding for value addition in mining, agriculture, tourism growth and infrastructure development.
Scheduled for July 9 to 10, the conference will target local and international investors, with the goal of enhancing the provincial Gross Development Product (GDP) and its contribution to the economy. The theme of the event is “Unlocking and Strengthening Provincial Potentials Sustainably towards the Realisation of Vision 2030”.
At a Press briefing yesterday, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo emphasised the importance of creating an investor-friendly environment.
“We are excited to invite local and international investors, development partners, business leaders, and Government departments to participate in this prestigious event, which is expected to draw close to 300 delegates,” Minister Chombo said.
She also extended a special invitation to Zimbabweans in the diaspora and foreign investors to join virtually, ensuring their insights are included in the discussions.
The conference is expected to attract participants from Asia, the European Union, and the African region, highlighting the global interest in the province’s potential.
Minister Chombo noted the urgent need for investment in the processing and value addition of the province’s vast mineral and agricultural resources. She also emphasized the necessity for infrastructure development to support economic activities.
“The Mashonaland West Investment Conference is an essential platform for forging partnerships, sharing knowledge, networking, and driving growth in our region,” she added.
As a recognized tourism hub, the province is also looking to attract investment in infrastructure for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and to develop new tourism products.
Mashonaland West contributes approximately 11.5 percent of the national GDP and is the third highest contributor to food production in the country.
