Mathonsi shot as he charges at police officers with machete

Police in Kadoma were forced to shoot  and wound an armed robber who was charging at them with a machete after he was intercepted soon after robbing a house in Kadoma.

Police using their official twitter handle, confirmed the shooting of Jealous Mathonsi (29).

Mathonsi and an accomplice, only identified as Mozi, who is on the run, had just pounced at a house and stole gold sand.

“Police in Kadoma arrested Mathonsi for a case of robbery that occurred on 10 June 2022 at around 1am. The suspect together with his accomplice only known as Mozi pounced at a house in New Ingezi while armed with machetes and knives,” said police.

During the robbery, the duo assaulted two complainants before stealing 6×50 kilograms of gold sand.

Detectives reacted swiftly after receiving the report and intercepted Mathonsi at Ingezi Shopping Centre.

“He tried to attack police officers with a machete resulting in police firing warning shots with an AK-47 rifle. However, the suspect kept advancing, resulting in him getting shot in the arm was holding the machete,” said police.

Mathonsi was subsequently arrested.

Mozi is still on the run.
