MATABELELAND North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Richard Moyo, has hailed the Zimbabwe Indigenous Inter-denominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) for partnering with Government in the fight against drug and substance abuse.
Minister Moyo said this in remarks delivered on his behalf by the Director for Matabeleland North Provincial Coordination in his office, Mr Tapera Mugoriya, during the annual ZIICC youth games competitions held in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North Province, on Saturday evening, where eight provinces participated in three sporting disciplines.
The eight provinces that took part in soccer, netball and volleyball were Matabeleland South, Midlands, Masvingo, Harare, Mashonaland West, Manicaland and hosts Matabeleland North, while the other two provinces sent representatives who participated in an anti-drug and substance abuse campaign within and around Tsholotsho Business Centre.
“I want to applaud ZIICC for partnering with Government in fighting drug and substance abuse among our youths. One of the key pillars towards attaining an upper middle-income society by 2030 is ensuring that we have a productive workforce as we build Zimbabwe brick by brick, stone by stone, as envisioned by President Mnangagwa,” said Minister Moyo.
Chaired by Bishop Patrick Mahachi, ZIICC’s major aim for the annual event was to cast away the scourge of drug and substance abuse among youths.
Minister Moyo said as Ministers of State from various provinces, they want to see youths who are free from the bondage of drug and substance abuse.
“No nation can prosper with youths addicted to drugs and substances. You are the future leaders. Tell yourselves now that stopping drug and substance abuse starts with you and all of us,” said Minister Moyo.
