Missing teenage girl Helen Dirani found after 13-day search

HARARE – A teenage girl missing since April 17 has been found wandering in Epworth – apparently unsure how she ended up there.

Helen Dirani, an Upper Sixth student at Mandedza High School, had been last seen leaving home in the upmarket neighbourhood of Shawasha Hills in Harare at around 6AM.

Helen, who lives with her parents, said she was going for a jog but when she did not come back her family launched a public appeal for her safe return.

On Saturday – 13 days after she went missing – the family said Helen had been found in Epworth but she had no memory of how she got there.

A family statement said: “Helen was found near Epworth after she reached out to her brother.

“At the moment she does not recall how she got there. To her little recollection, it was after some lady saw her roaming the streets and notified her that she is being flighted as a missing person. That lady is the one who gave her a phone and she reached out.”

Police were informed and Helen was booked to see a doctor.
