THE bravery of a community in Nyabira, which confronted a group of armed robbers as they were attacking a house of one of their community members, has led to the arrest of SEVEN suspected armed robbers.
The members of the Nyabira community ganged up to confront the gang, which had raided a house in the early hours of Tuesday.
The gang fled but one of the armed robbers, Mohammed Hamandishe, was caught by residents.
He was caught at around 0300 hours.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the case, saying a Retay pistol, nine live rounds, four blank rounds and two pistol magazines, were recovered.
The suspect implicated his accomplices, who appear to include two brothers.
This led to the arrest of Malvin Mohammed Maisiri (32), Leonard Mahwindo (26), Tension Mahwindo (26), Heavens Chimupenga (17), Moffat Mango (50), Kudakwashe Munemo (29) and Goodwill Muchimba (39) in Nyabira and Chitungwiza.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of seven suspects in connection with a series of armed robbery cases which occurred in Nyabira.
“The arrest follows an armed robbery incident which occurred on 05th May 2026 at around 0300 hours, at a house in Nyabira where the suspects allegedly attacked the complainant while demanding cash and valuables before ransacking the house.
“The suspect implicated his accomplices, leading to their subsequent arrest in Nyabira and Chitungwiza.
“Police recovered a Tokarev pistol, a magazine and one live round of ammunition, a bolt cutter and a bicycle, among other items.”
The gang is also being linked to three other armed robbery cases, which occurred on April 26, in the same area, where cash and household goods were stolen.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the Nyabira community for their swift and courageous response, which led to the arrest of one of the suspects,” said Comm Nyathi.
